Bike Trip

Hello everyone,
Happy Sunday and hope the rain isn't ruining your weekend. It's been murky for ages..but all the same it doesn't seem to bother me all that much.

My productive hours the last several days have been spent preparing for a bike trip I am going to be taking later this summer. It is called Candisc - The Northern Tier Flyway Tour... however, put simply, it is a 7 day bike trip through North Dakota.

I am excited.

While I've always enjoyed riding my bike around town, and when I was younger I was preoccupied for a time with mountain biking, I've never done a trip of this nature. It is 447 miles long with the longest day clocking in at just under 90 miles (though I'm told there is an option to go over 100 on that day).

I am nervous.

It's a pretty neat little set up and while they definitely make it more of a possibility for those in my camp (inexperienced in this realm), the daily mileage itself is daunting. So in an effort to actually enjoy this trip (which at this point would be torture) like I want to I have begun training and riding everyday. We'll see how it goes. So far so good.

I found a really neat training schedule for being able to complete a century ride (as I recently learned...the term for riding over 100 miles in a day) and have been using that as a (somewhat rudimentary) guideline for where I'll need to be. I'll update as I feel it is appropriate.

Oh! One really neat thing I found while on my bike riding journeys....

Well...I may well be the only person who didn't know about these until recently, but whoever at freewheel came up with the idea to make a vending machine for bike parts and other bike related goodies deserves and high five and a pack of cliff bars or something. Woah. I mean sure...I haven't had use for it yet...but I truly look forward to the day that something compels me purchase something from this machine. Awesome.

Anyway...that's all about that for now. Stay motivated or something like that.

A new project

Hello blogworld!

My name is Erik and this is my new project/blog..."Build Something. Every Day."
This blog is intended to be both about documenting projects that I am working on, be they literally physically building something (like a tea shelf), or simply making productive forward progress in any real direction.

As things currently sit, my best and most useful camera is built into my telephone...that is to say...it's not very good. So please bear with me as someday in the near future I will purchase a digital camera that I can avoid being ashamed of.

Since I do have a small backlog of things I'd like to post pictures and stories regarding...there will probably be a few rapid updates (even today perhaps) describing these previous events/projects etc.

Also worth noting is that if, by chance you have any neat contributions that you'd like to make to this blog, like the documentation of you creating something awesome, shoot me an email...I'd love to put it up.

So without further delay, I hear by christen this blog with a dirty coffee pot the "U.S.S. Buildsomethingeveryday!"

In the eternal words of Bob The Builder, "Can we build (fix) it? YES WE CAN."
