The 2 AM Two dimes...bicycle in the snow disaster race mix

Just threw this shit together for an awesome mix to go crash my non-winterized bike into snowbanks over and over again...Don't judge...or do...Couldn't care less
Turns out when digging through the memory banks...The Offspring have a whole bunch of songs that fit this kinda activity incredibly well...I suppose its the skate influence
  1. Weezer - Getchoo
  2. Rancid - Maxwell Murders
  3. Lupe Fiasco - Turnt Up
  4. The Offspring - Never Gonna Find Me
  5. Suicide Machines - Hey
  6. Adolescents - Amoeba
  7. Ratatat - 17 years
  8. Jimmy Eat World - Just tonight...
  9. Mike Mitclan and Lazerbeak Feat. P.O.S. - Shux
  10. Reggie and the full effect - Apocalypse Wow!
  11. Outkast - Bombs over Baghdad
  12. Death From Above 1979 - Go Home, Get Down
  13. Jay Sean - Fire
  14. Fucked up - Two Snakes
  15. Mindless Self Indulgence - Clarissa
  16. Alkaline trio - Back to Hell

Fuck...I might have to just listen to DFA 1979's whole record too

PFFFFT

Bike not working right post accident (will post about the accident later) new rim is crappy...other nice replacement I have is the wrong size...

Wish I had gotten more schoolwork done this weekend...wish I had posted some of the things I had been working on here...

Wish I had bought that saxophone when I had the chance...now I fear I will not find one like it again.

PFFFT. School work ho! (I'm over this monday and am going to listen to happy go lucky Japanese video game music to cheer me up)

Bitchy rant over!

Today's quote/thought

‎"A new experience is like traveling through unknown country. But, remember, others have taken that route before you...So, question number one: is there a map?... Doesn't matter if you're going to get married, commit a burglary or keep a guinea-pig - efficiency is the proper collation of information."

"When I think about religion at all, I feel as if I would like to found an order for those who cannot believe: the Confraternity of the Fatherless one might call it, where on an alter, on which no taper burned, a priest, in whose heart peace had no dwelling, might celebrate with unblessed bread and a chalice empty of wine. Everything to be true must become a religion. And agnosticism should have its ritual no less than faith. It has sown its martyrs, it should reap its saints, and praise God daily for having hidden Himself from man." - Oscar Wilde, "De Profundis"

Candisc Rapid Recap

Welp. I messed up. Let me tell ya...

I messed up.
I did. I started this whole blogging thing and poof. Look!, Almost two months later...no posts, no updates.

Well here is an update. Recently I told you that I would be heading to ND in order to take place in CANDISC, a 7 day ride across ND.
Well I went.

And suffice it to say it was a blast. For those of you who are facebook buddies, be sure to check out some of the great pictures that are on facebook....for those of you who aren't...well...add me...then check it out.

We traveled an average of about 70 miles or so per day...and it was intense but alot of fun.
Before leaving I spent a great deal of time working up and building my bike. His Name is"Cerberus"

Props to the guys and Sunrise Cycle and Freewheel for helping me find so much of what I needed.

Oh...someone should note. Someone should say it...only because every person and their respective parent commented something to this effect...

If you truly believe that North Dakota is flat...
then you have never been west of Fargo.

We dealt with hills constantly...and I kid you not there was a day where we climbed the first 40 miles or so....1,000 feet. (think I'm kidding? I'm holding the elevation chart) so it was intense. But that having been said it was great and that was part of it.

Weather was mostly alright...though one day (while most of us did not) I managed to hit a patch of hail...so that was exciting...and I in the process had a bungee chord disconnect from holding the bag on my back rack and wrap around my back tire. I was lucky it did not destroy the thread right there and possibly end my trip entirely.

This used to be a bungee chord.
Scary moment.

The trip wasn't perfect. But it was fun and I certainly wouldn't take it back. Matt (my riding buddy) and I were really the only ones ridding steel frame bikes (with a few exceptions), with most people riding carbon fiber blah blah... My only real complaints are that the other riders on the trip weren't that much fun overall...middle aged men with serious beer guts joking about riding in the support van and lying to their friends about riding the whole way. My other complaint would be that I thought that the camping aspect of this trip was going to be more legit camping. Instead we found ourselves camping next to small town highschools and churches and such. While that wasn't really an issue, I was convinced that part of my registration money was going towards real campsites.

Home Sweet Home. And a sign that I found in a rinky dink town we stayed in.

We found sheep! Which was exciting to me. Crosby, ND

Oil rig burn off spot...saw several of these. There was all sorts of beautiful
scenery...wish I could fit more.

And in the end...we celebrated...with expensive cigars.

All in all it was a great trip. So much fun. Won't do it again next year. I'll do something different, Matt and I had talked about doing something entirely self supported. Well...that is all on Candisc for now. I'm sure I'll tell more stories later. Expect a few finished projects and things to be posted about within the next few days. 48 Hour Film fest Recap is coming up soon!

Take Care,
Erik

Bike Trip

Hello everyone,
Happy Sunday and hope the rain isn't ruining your weekend. It's been murky for ages..but all the same it doesn't seem to bother me all that much.

My productive hours the last several days have been spent preparing for a bike trip I am going to be taking later this summer. It is called Candisc - The Northern Tier Flyway Tour... however, put simply, it is a 7 day bike trip through North Dakota.

I am excited.

While I've always enjoyed riding my bike around town, and when I was younger I was preoccupied for a time with mountain biking, I've never done a trip of this nature. It is 447 miles long with the longest day clocking in at just under 90 miles (though I'm told there is an option to go over 100 on that day).

I am nervous.

It's a pretty neat little set up and while they definitely make it more of a possibility for those in my camp (inexperienced in this realm), the daily mileage itself is daunting. So in an effort to actually enjoy this trip (which at this point would be torture) like I want to I have begun training and riding everyday. We'll see how it goes. So far so good.

I found a really neat training schedule for being able to complete a century ride (as I recently learned...the term for riding over 100 miles in a day) and have been using that as a (somewhat rudimentary) guideline for where I'll need to be. I'll update as I feel it is appropriate.

Outside after riding...accidental picture...

Oh! One really neat thing I found while on my bike riding journeys....

Well...I may well be the only person who didn't know about these until recently, but whoever at freewheel came up with the idea to make a vending machine for bike parts and other bike related goodies deserves and high five and a pack of cliff bars or something. Woah. I mean sure...I haven't had use for it yet...but I truly look forward to the day that something compels me purchase something from this machine. Awesome.

Anyway...that's all about that for now. Stay motivated or something like that.

A new project

Hello blogworld!

My name is Erik and this is my new project/blog..."Build Something. Every Day."
This blog is intended to be both about documenting projects that I am working on, be they literally physically building something (like a tea shelf), or simply making productive forward progress in any real direction.

As things currently sit, my best and most useful camera is built into my telephone...that is to say...it's not very good. So please bear with me as someday in the near future I will purchase a digital camera that I can avoid being ashamed of.

Since I do have a small backlog of things I'd like to post pictures and stories regarding...there will probably be a few rapid updates (even today perhaps) describing these previous events/projects etc.

Also worth noting is that if, by chance you have any neat contributions that you'd like to make to this blog, like the documentation of you creating something awesome, shoot me an email...I'd love to put it up.

So without further delay, I hear by christen this blog with a dirty coffee pot the "U.S.S. Buildsomethingeveryday!"

In the eternal words of Bob The Builder, "Can we build (fix) it? YES WE CAN."
